Author Guidelines

JOEEL (Journal of English Education and Literature) welcomes original research articles and conceptual papers in the fields of English language teaching and learning, language studies, and literature. Author(s) are expected to follow the guidelines below.

1. General Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not be under consideration elsewhere.
  • Write the article in clear, academic English.
  • Ensure all content, citations, and references are accurate.
  • The journal uses a double-blind peer-review process for all submissions.

2. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized as follows:
  • Title (succinct and informative, max. 15–20 words)
  • Author(s) Name and Affiliation
  • Abstract (150–250 words)
  • Keywords (3–5 keywords)
  • Introduction
  • Method
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgement
  • References

3. Formatting Guidelines

  • Manuscript length: 5,000–7,000 words
  • Font: Cambria, 12 pt
  • Spacing: single (1.0)
  • Paper size: A4
  • Margins: 3 cm on all sides
  • Use well-defined headings and subheadings in accordance with the journal template.
Authors must use the official JOEEL article template

4. Citation and References

  • Use APA Style (7th Edition) for in-text citations and references.
  • List all cited works in the reference section and vice versa.
  • Site relevant  and recent sources (preferably from the last 5 years).
  • Use reference management tools such as Mendeley.
  • Use language quality tools such as Grammarly prior to submission.

5. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system (OJS).
  • Authors need to register/log in before submitting.

6. Initial Screening and Review Process

  • The editorial team will first check whether submissions conform to the journal’s scope. They will also review formatting.
  • All manuscripts are checked for similarity with iThenticate. The maximum allowed similarity is 20%.
  • Manuscripts passing the first screening go to double-anonymous peer review. At least two reviewers will be assigned.s.
  • Revise manuscripts based on reviewers’ feedback if required.

7. AI Policy

JOEEL allows the responsible use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process under the following conditions:
  • Authors may use AI tools to improve readability and language quality.
  • Carefully review and edit all AI-generated output to validate accuracy  and integrity.
  • AI (including Large Language Models) must not be listed as an author or co-author.
  • Disclose use of AI in the Methods section as applicable.
  • Limit AI use in the manuscript to a maximum of 10%.
  • Do not use AI tools to create original images, figures, or videos. All visuals must be made by humans.s.
This policy assures transparency, accountability, and academic integrity.

8. Publication Ethics

  • Authors must avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, and multiple submissions.
  • Acknowledge all sources properly.

9. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • APC is charged only after the manuscript is accepted.
  • Further details will be provided upon acceptance.

Submission Checklist

Before proceeding with your submission to JOEEL (Journal of English Education and Literature), please ensure that your manuscript complies with the following requirements. Authors will be asked to confirm each item during the submission process:

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The submission is written in clear and academic English.
  • The manuscript is prepared in accordance with the JOEEL Author Guidelines and uses the official article template.
  • The manuscript length is 5,000–7,000 words, formatted in Cambria 12 pt, single spacing, A4 paper size, with 3 cm margins on all sides.
  • The manuscript follows the required structure: Title, Author(s), Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
  • The Results and Discussion sections are presented separately.
  • All references and in-text citations follow the APA 7th edition style.
  • The references are relevant and up-to-date (preferably published within the last 5 years).
  • The manuscript has been checked for similarity (maximum 20%).
  • The use of generative AI (if any) has been properly disclosed in the Methods section or in the AI Declaration section.
  • The manuscript file may include author identity and affiliation.
  • The author(s) agree to revise the manuscript according to reviewers’ and editors’ comments.
  • The author(s) agree to comply with the journal’s publication ethics and peer-review process.
  • The author(s) understand that the Article Processing Charge (APC) applies only after acceptance.

By proceeding with the submission, the author(s) confirm that all the above requirements have been fulfilled.
